In a fast-paced changing environment, where new technologies and innovations enter our lives constantly, there are major benefits that can improve our daily lives.

There are also challenges to our society’s norms and values – such as in the traditional democratic system where the fake-news phenomenon causes expansion of the depth of the split between positions amplified by people’s behavior on social media and creates separate ideology echo chambers.

Emerging Technologies have both the ability to make huge contributions to humanity but may also carry consequences which will challenge fundamental values, human dignity rights, social rights, and privacy rights.

Government policies regarding digitization have a real and crucial impact in various aspects:

Workforce and occupational changes are expected in the market, and we should be prepared: in the short term – lack of trained human resources that are qualified to the high-tech industry. In the long term – career re-training to the population for the future jobs market and finding solutions for people whose occupations will no longer be needed due to automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

In the financial sector, virtual coins and other virtual financial services challenge the capability of governments to regulate markets and call for new understanding and shaping of the traditional finance eco-system.

In the national security aspects, training cyber warriors that will serve and protect from the potential for damage through and by the virtual interface of the state institutions, and the difficulties of reacting to attacks from unknown sources.

Considering all this is crucial in order to get a deeper understanding of how digitization influences our lives and societies, and a wider view of the digital space is important to the formulation of policies in the different zones while maintaining a balance with basic human rights.
