In a speech today at the International Homeland Security Forum, Public Security Minister Erdan says Twitter’s refusal to ban users who “call for the murder of innocents” is intolerable.
Twitter can do better than this – I hope they will respond quickly and ban Hamas accounts as Facebook does, and Google. There is no place for advocacy for terror on social media. Over-reactions by governments can lead to laws that restrict free speech, and force companies to overblock controversial legitimate to avoid risks of fines. Instead, companies can make it easy for authorities to quickly report violations of terms of service. Attorney General Shaked notes this is working well in Israel with Google and Facebook – Twitter get on board!
